The Rochester City Kids Farm Tour

  • Wednesday, July 26, 2017, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

One of the hottest actvities popular with the Monroe County public this summer has become on-farm visits!

Cornell University Extension of Monroe County and Stonecrop Farm, USDA Organic Certified egg and meat producer, are jointly hosting a farm tour for the Rochester City Summer Program kids - some of which has never been past the City border!

This 2-hour tour will be a great opportunity for the kids to meet real farmers, learn about pasture-raised animals, egg, meat and some vegetable production and better understand the process of how these products make it to market. To best expose the kids to a farm life, they will walk the grounds, meet all of the animals and see how the chickens, ducks, turkeys and pigs spend their days on a family farm. They will also explore the tropical ginger and turmeric growing in a hoop house.

A group discussion and a team challenge to test the kids' newly gained knowledge and a volunteer project or work to help alleviate work on already busy farm at the event's end will close the tour.
