30-Hour Pesticide Training Certification Course

Professional training for arborists, garden retail, lawn, landscape, and nursery professionals. Recertification and CNLP credits available.

Our 30-Hour Pesticide Training Certification Course fulfills the educational requirement for individuals interested in obtaining a Commercial Pesticide Technicians Certification in category 3, (turf and ornamentals). All classes will be held via Zoom.

This course is offered as part of the training requirements necessary for individuals seeking to become Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicators in category 3.

Once you have successfully completed the 30-Hour Training Course you are eligible to take the core and appropriate category exams.

Individuals who have their pesticide applicators license can sign up for classes that allow them to obtain recertification credits.

Session 2 - Tues 2/15/22 (9 AM): Turfgrass Pests, An In-Depth Look at IPM, Turfgrass Wrap up

Session 3 - Wed 2/16/22 (9:00 AM):Ornamental Plant Pathology

Session 4 - Thurs 2/17/22 (9:00 AM): Pesticide CORE Competency 1

Session 5 - Thurs 2/17/22 (1:00 PM): Pesticide CORE Competency 2

Session 6 - Fri 2/18/22 (9:00 AM): Critters in the Landscape, Pesticides, Water, and the Environment

Session 7 -Mon 2/21/22 (9:00 AM): Applied Ornamental Entomology

Session 8 - Tues 2/22/22 (9:00 AM): Personal Protective Equipment, Pesticide Exposure Risk and Toxicity & Interpreting Pesticide Labels, Calculations for Mixing Pesticides

Session 9 - Wed 2/23/22 (9:00 AM): Intro to Turfgrass and Their Diseases

Session 10 -Thurs 2/24/22 (9:00 AM): Weeds of the Landscape

ENROLLMENT/REGISTRATION STEPS

PLEASE READ THIS STEPS OVER CAREFULLY TO ENSURE PROPER ENROLLMENT AND CREDIT

  1. Register online using the Cornell Event system: Register Here
  2. Submit payment (when you fill out the online registration it will automatically generate a Purchase Order form, check form, or PayPal payment):
    1. Pay by credit/debit card through PayPal (no account needed). We cannot take payment over the phone nor day of class.
    2. Check (made out to CCE Monroe County) and/or purchase order should include the form generated by the event system and be mailed to: CCE Monroe County, 2449 St. Paul Blvd, Rochester, NY 14617
  3. Order your own core and category manuals:
    1. Go to Cornellbookstore.com
    2. Order the Category 3 book and Core Manual
  4. Check your email inbox for:
    1. Registration confirmation email.
    2. Email will be sent out on Friday, 2/11 containing Zoom links to access your session(s).
  5. Prepare for online learning (see TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS below):
    1. Download Zoom and test it out before class begins. Test your video and audio as well.
  6. Day of class ID Submission (see PHOTO ID UPLOAD below):
    1. If you are taking the course for the first time, you must upload a picture of your photo ID to this secure Cornell Qualtrics Survey BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.
    2. If you are getting recertification credits, you must upload a picture of your NYS Pesticide Applicator ID to this secure Cornell Qualtrics Survey BEFORE CLASS.

DEC EXAM

**MUST TAKE FULL COURSE IN ORDER TO TAKE EXAM**

  • Date: Tuesday, March 1, 2022 @ 9:00 AM
  • Location: Wegman Lodge in Seneca Park
  • Inclement Weather Date: Thursday, March 3, 2022 @ 9:00 AM
  • Note: You must bring your 30-hour course certificate, NYS driver’s license and a check made out to NYS DEC for $100. Cash will not be accepted.

NYS DEC REQUIREMENTS FOR DISTANCE PROGRAMS:

  • To take the exam on 3/1/22, attendees of the 30 Hour Course are required to attend all classes. No makeup classes are available.
  • Latecomers (10 or more minutes) for any class will not receive credit for that class.
  • Certificates of completion will be mailed to you.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

  • Desktop PC, laptop, or tablet with audio and video capability. If you must join by phone, that is acceptable but not advised.
  • A good internet connection.
  • Audio headphones if needed.
  • Have your device charged and a charger nearby, as Zoom tends to use extra battery.

PHOTO ID UPLOAD

Upload Directly from your Phone:

  1. Take a picture of your photo ID with your phone.
  2. Open the Qualtrics Survey on your phone's web browser.
  3. Upload the picture directly from your phone's photo library.

Upload from your Computer:

  1. Take a picture of your photo ID with your phone and send/share it to your email.
  2. Open the email on your computer and download it to your computer.
  3. Open the Qualtrics Survey and upload the photo from your downloads folder or wherever downloads save to on your computer.
