Getting Started in Agritourism

Did you know that Agritourism is one of the fastest growing area of tourism industry? And this is a trend that is not likely to go away soon! 

As the public interest in in sustainability and local agriculture grows, it offers farmers with opportunity to capture this desire and expand their operations to develop ‘destination’ farms.

This workshop is aimed at the farmers, food entrepreneurs, horse-farm owners, and other Agribusiness that would like to expand and grow their revenues by moving their purely agricultural operations to developing a “destination” farm for public to enjoy. 

This workshop is the first of the series designed to help farmers build necessary skills, scale their businesses and create sales while offering a fun and educational experience for public. But having visitors on a farm and keeping them safe and happy requires knowledge and planning. Several industry experts will share their learning and a reference handbook will be provided to participants to help them start their own strategy. The presenters are:

  • Greg LaDuca and Cailin Lawrence, Visit Rochester - connecting visitors with farmers
  • Bill Wickham of Wickham Farms, Laura Faulk of Experience!The Fingerlakes, Joe Hurley of Kettle Ridge Farm and Amy Machamer of Hurd Orchards  - from U-picks to full entertainment - building a successful business from scratch, challenges and rewards of having public on your farm, sharing the learning from recent Agritourism Conference 
  • Monika Roth of CCE Topkins County - latest dimensions and directions of Agritourism. 
  • Mike Southcott – Nationawide Insurance – managing Agritourism business risks

Registration fee includes lunch, raffle to win a door prize and a book signing session.The participants are encouraged to bring their business cards. Only the business cards will be entered into the raffle.
