Farm Financial Skill Building - Helping Farmers be Better Financial Managers
There is no substitute for hands-on experience in financial decision making. Production skills can be learned on the job but financial savvy not as much. It is rare for the farm owner to open their financial books to their employees or even the family members and discuss financial decisions. Even when farm employees or family members have this opportunity, their experience is usually limited to their farm alone making it even harder to assess the quality of financial decisions being made.
To close this gap, facilitated peer-to-peer learning circles are offered to help enhance farmers' understanding of the impact of financial decisions on the farm's profitability through the sharing of individual farm finances and their impact.
The participants will:
- Work in small
groups to assess and streamline their farm’s accounting system and customize their Chart of Accounts to make better business decisions and compare their business to standardized industry and peer benchmarks.
-
Learning alongside peer farmers
to better understand the
typical, the possible, and the totally unexpected in farm finances, participate in five round-table sessions (March-August 2022) alongside peer
farmers
operating at similar scales throughout NYS to discuss financial decision-making
opportunities.
-
Receive detailed
financial benchmarks that
compare key indicators for their farm with similar peer farms. You’ll also receive a free electronic
tablet, allowing them to continue connecting with CCE and your peers for
ongoing support!
