This class aims at farmers and hobby growers who are considering a commercial mushroom growing and for landowners who are interested in growing mushroom for their own consumption.
In a classroom session we will cover growing methods used to grow shiitake, oyster, lions mane, nameko, chestnut, and stropharia mushrooms. You will learn the basic biology of mushrooms, cultivation techniques, proper conditions for fruiting, management needs, and harvesting and marketing mushrooms. The maintenance, suppliers, and further resources will be discussed.
Following a presentation on outdoor home-grown mushroom cultivation techniques and log maintenance, we will inoculate logs with mycelium that will produce gourmet Shiitake mushrooms for years. You will be able to take your own Shiitake log home.
This project can get messy so dress accordingly. We will be indoors for presentation and outdoors for hands on portion. All materials provided.
Prepaid registration required. Class size is limited to 20 participants.
