Insect & Tick Sample Submission

Our Insect and Tick Test Includes:

  • Insect Identification
  • Insect Impact on your plant
  • Tick Identification
    • Species
    • Maturity - larva, nymph, adult
    • Male/Female determination 
    • Engorgement Level - an approximate duration of the tick's attachment    

Please NOTE we do not test for tick-borne diseases (Lyme, Escherichia, etc.) 

Our comprehensive report includes an image of the affected plant tissue, a breakdown of your result, and recommendations to help remediate the problem.

Payment: Each insect/tick sample test is $20.00 for cash/check and $21.00 for credit card.

Submitting an Insect Sample: We take live or dead specimens. Place the insect or tick in a glass jar, plastic bag, or container. If you are not bringing the sample right away, place it in the refrigerator.   

Before submission, label the container with your name and include a completed copy of the INSECT SUBMISSION FORM. We can email the Form to you. Email monroe@cornell.edu to request it.

Submitting your sample:

  • In person- see the office hours below
    • Summer Hours: Mon - Thur 9 AM - 4 PM, Friday 9 AM - 12 PM
    • Fall & Spring Hours: Mon - Fri 9 AM - 4 PM
  • By postal mail
  • By using our after-hours drop box (on the side porch)

Place tick(s) in a container with a small amount of isopropyl or rubbing alcohol and bring it to our office.
